This is the third day in a row they have cut into Days for Erika.  But the worst part of the interruption was, it was to say the situation hasn’t changed.  It really irritates me how much the media sensationalizes this.  They’re saying on the news to fill up your car, get water, get shutters ready to install.  My God, it isn’t ecen a hurricane yet.

the media goes overboard. Lately, it has been so hot here in Texas. We know it is hot! It is this way every summer. But, the high temps aren’t attention-grabbing enough apparently. The weather people have to lead in with what the heat index is–or what it FEELS like outside. It has been this way since the 60s (?) when the news and weather became a money-making business. Before that, profit wasn’t involved. News was furnished by the government. At least that’s what I think happened to the industry.

Erika veers off a path to the least amount of damage. From what I hear the rain is needed in some areas, but not the wind.

panic among the public. Without all the media hype, after receiving the news that a simple tropical storm is coming their way (usually only consists of some rain and wind that is certainly not unusual in South Florida), rush to get their gas tanks filled and buy tons of water? Now watch, it’ll suddenly turn into a Cat. 5 and I’ll be left with an empty gas tank and no water. :o)

Seriously, I figure I always have a case of bottled water on hand and I feel entirely safe with my hurricane shutters installed so bring it on, Mother Nature, I’m ready.

After Wilma when we had no power, we had some of the greatest BBQs in the neighborhood. People brought out their gas grills, emptied their freezers and cooked away. It was actually a lot of fun and, BOY!, did we ever eat! The only thing I can say we lacked was ice. Fortunately we didn’t have our typical 90º temps then so we didn’t suffer with the heat too much.

I’m catching up on Days as I was on vacation.  I live in Jax, but was visiting family in VA.  Thursday my mom was all worried about me getting home safely.  I told her the storm could change its path and may not even impact Jax.  Looks like I was right.
