Okay, I know this is a soap opera, not a medical show and as a retired nurse midwife educator I am picky about this, but placenta previa presents with PAINLESS bright red vaginal bleeding! They are right that often as the placenta grows it grows up off the cervix (it is a very common finding in early pregnancy and I used to tell my clients not to worry at this stage, but just watch for bleeding). Strong pains at this stage are more likely a sign of abruption (separation on the placenta with bleeding between the uterus and the placenta. End of my tutorial!
but I’ve had placenta previa, and you are right, so thank you for correcting that for everyone. I was diagnosed with it 12 weeks into my last pregnancy. It corrected by week 24. I was put on modified bed rest.
… but of course the truth isn’t as dramatic as a character doubling over in pain. Is my memory fuzzy or does something seem to happen to every woman on Days who gets pregnant? "My baby!" seems to be a line we hear over and over.
When I was in nursing school, I had to write a paper about placenta previa and then (because our instructor at this time was different) we had to then act out our paper with a partner and the partners had to figure out what we had. I was watching this going “um, that’s not right.”
But, such is TV I guess. I know we see it all the time.
did an excellent job of explaining it on today’s show. She even told Abe that it usually corrects itself, and the most important concern was bleeding, as well as the possibility of premature birth.
We have Marlena talking about Dr. patient confidentiality, with one of Abigail’s alters, but Valerie obviously broke the law by taking a patient’s file and snooping around.
