I didn’t like Phillip’s reference to Glenn Beck. I recall a political crack once before. I don’t think its appropriate. With November around the corner, I hope the writers can keep politics off the show.
Boy, do I ever agree with you! That remark hit me right between the eyes and I instantly thought how inappropriate it was. I don’t think a soap is anyplace at all to insert one’s (writers’, producer’s, actors’, or whomever it belonged to) political views. I really think TPTB owe us viewers an apology for that. To me that is every bit as bad as making a disparaging remark about one’s race or religion and I’m sure they would never do that.
but I have a strict inforcement policy of my own – that policy is – if a show inserts political leanings (and they are never what I espouse to, it being Hollywood), I never watch, rent or go to the actor’s movies again.
I have adhered to this practice since 1972 – and we all know who went where then. Over the years my boycott list has grown expeditiously, so I’ve probably missed a few good movies however, one must stand up for one’s principles in life and not bend to the wind of the masses.
I find it funny that actors studying only drama or catching a break in Hollyweird can advocate and champion a cause that they know absolutely nothing about other than it is the popular headline or chant du jour.
I can’t stop watching Day’s, but I could FF’d through all of Phillips scenes forever…however, like I said – I will have to watch it to see first.
There have been a few references lately.
Days isn’t the only show on NBC to make political pot-shots. Law & Order (original) and SVU do it too.
If we want politics, we’ll watch news channels. Keep the politics OUT of our entertainment, please.

I don’t remember what he said. Was it a political crack or was it just a crack about Glen Beck? Don’t flame me here but Glen Beck does get commonly mocked on TV.
number of years ago…it was a good show too but when their writer’s and producer’s brought in their political views – I quit watching. I so agree Jenn, leave the politics out of entertainment, a lot of singers/songwriters at concerts do the same thing, as well as t.v. shows and of course, movies do so now…they don’t get my dollars when they espouse their rhetoric.

That is all that was said; I guess you can decide for yourself if you think this is a "real" political statement.

with the Glenn Beck comment. I thought the remark was funny (not to mention, right as rain). Phillip was referencing the antics of the Fox TV host, not politics in general. Personally, I think Glenn Beck and people like him are shit-stirrers, and they don’t sway my opinion one way or the other; however, I do agree that the writers need to keep that sort of dialogue out of DOOL scripts, or any other soap opera plot/story line, which is as far from the political arena as you can get, IMO.
deserves any comment or mocking. He is a supposedly entertainer. What he does is not really politics. Just says whatever comes to his head, not really what is news. Can’t for the life of me understand why anyone listens to him.
current…then in the next day or the next week’s show I want to see a quid pro quo line said by one of the characters about Chris Matthews or Cokie Roberts in a flippent or derogatory line.
This is NBC and it’s known for it’s bias against the right. It’s their way of covert indoctrination by sneaking in these little jabs in their own blatant way.
However, if it is just as you said just a way to keep the show current, then I’d like the writer’s to be fair to both ends of the aisle. Otherwise, I’d just as soon have them keep politics totally out of the mix, it’s not why I watch the show.
I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who feels this way. Sometimes the Hollywood crowd act as if they are so much smarter than everyone else and their opinion is the only one that matters.
NBC is well know for their left leanings. It’s no secret that MSNBC has been in bed with the Democrats. That said, if they mention Glen Beck, or Fox news, it’s meant to be a slam to conservatives, plain and simple. If Glen Beck is a "shit-stirrer" he does it on Fox on his own show, which is purely commentary. It’s his forum. On Days, it’s not appropriate. People from all political persuasions watch the show. I don’t want political commentary on there. I want to be entertained. If they think it’s funny to slam Glen Beck or conservatives they will find that they are alienating many viewers and that could spell trouble for their viewership.
I’m not a Glen Beck follower, but I find the negative reference to him is unnecessary. Let’s leave reality out of Days, they do that so well in all other areas they don’t need to add it here.
