Yes, I saw that. The next commercial was for Twizzlers and my husband asked if I saw the product placement. It was written into the script said in passing that I didn’t even realize it was product placement until he mentioned it and I noticed the commercial.
I do have to say that I did want some Twizzlers after Myka pulled hers out of her pocket.
Edited to add: This should have been a reply to islandgal’s post below about Warehouse 13’s product placement.
July 15, 2010 at 10:55 pm #14556BonbonParticipanta commercial and product placement. PP just involves the product being in the scene with the name visible, maybe I should say ‘prominently’ visable. Whereas a commercial has actual dialog about the product. What Days has been doing is not product placement, it’s an out-and-out commercial.
July 15, 2010 at 11:15 pm #1455753tdogsParticipantthe "Chex Mix" debacle on Days…you are so correct – that was a commercial not product placement, I’ll live with product placement all day long, but to do what the advertisers did with the Chex Mix is crass (more so than usual).
July 20, 2010 at 11:42 pm #1472353tdogsParticipantthe chocolate scene in the kitchen today…crass commericalism. I think we all said that we don’t mind the product placement, even being prominently placed so what ever the item being touted is right there in front of us while we’re watching the show – but the "mini-commerical" like what happened again today with Mel and Phillip in the program is enough to make me boycott the products…first Midol, then Chex Mix, and now Bliss chocolate candy…off my grocery list.
July 21, 2010 at 11:20 am #14727BonbonParticipantBesides, who eats chocolate candy before breakfast? Well…um…maybe I have once…er twice…oh well, probably lots of people do.
Yeah, let’s go back to plain and simple product placement. I can accept that but they’re going overboard now with this blatant advertising. Isn’t 20 minutes of commercials enough?
July 21, 2010 at 2:37 pm #14733dvalParticipantwas going to mention Warehouse 13 on SyFy but see islandgal got to it first.
July 21, 2010 at 3:22 pm #14734mommytutuParticipantI was watching and immediately saw the bag of Bliss chocolates–no one had to point it out to me. Phillip could have walked in and asked Melanie what she was eating and she could have said "some chocolate" and shown him the bag. I didn’t need to whole forced conversation about Bliss. I will say that as soon as I saw the bag, I knew days was going to have one of those silly commercial dialogs. I wonder if there is some agreement they sign with sponsors that say they won’t just place the product, but do a full blown ad for the product.
July 21, 2010 at 4:12 pm #14735DeeLanParticipantMentioning Warehouse 13 again. Did you see it last night. At the vets office there was a huge plastic bin of Twizzlers BUT that was the only product placement for them, the visual.
July 21, 2010 at 4:36 pm #1473853tdogsParticipantwith that all day…it’s subliminal – the mind sees it and files it so the next time we see it in the store we could purchase it but we don’t key on it (unless we’re hungry). The way the show is doing it, I will out and out not purchase the products.
July 21, 2010 at 4:47 pm #14739PattiParticipantthey still don’t bother me.
