I felt Gretchen’s line was far better than the 3 outfits she chose to get into the final 3, but still was not taken by her main color/print pattern. I felt Mondo should have won.
As for Jessica Simpson, I didn’t think she looked particularly attractive and not a whole lot of insight.October 30, 2010 at 1:05 pm #17487annieoParticipantI was actually surprised at the winner because the judges seem to always go for flashier designs. I thought Gretchen’s clothes were nice (especially the jewelry) but as Heidi pointed out it wasn’t a jewelry show. I forwarded through some of their arguments for and against, so I could get to the end. It seemed like a long drawn out show, especially bringing back the former designers. Ivy should really be pegged the "bitch overall", altho Gretchen for me still remains a close second! Michael C. just looked dejected. Funny, I barely remembered most/some of the earlier designers. Don’t really know when this was filmed but I thought Jessica Simpson looked pregnant, hence the puffy look.
I was surprised by Andy’s designs – they were lovely but really lacked color – except for the green which I really, really loved. Oh well, it’s over for another season. I’m still not sure why I get so caught up in this show, but I love it. That and Say Yes to the Dress, which my husband shakes his head every time – "not this again." I like the new one "Big Bliss"- it’s good that these brides feel good in their skin. I’m a size 14-16 in the waist and can wear a 12 in the butt so shopping for pants is a real pain. I can’t imagine trying on a wedding dress and pulling on the sample sizes over ample bodies. I’m rambling!
October 30, 2010 at 3:44 pm #1749453tdogsParticipantname Klienstiens or something – they are going to have to realize that the population of the USA is getting larger than it was 15 to 20 years ago so their stock and sample sizes should reflect that.
I was a size 4-6 all my life until I hit 37 (spent a year in the hospital bed and the now ex- could really cook and with no exercise), then from there the bod’s metabolism changed and at about 40 went to an 8 by the time I was 45 I was a 10, when I got divorced after 25 years of marriage at 50 (he was the one with the mid-life crisis and a Porche wouldn’t suffice if ya know what I mean) – I was a size 12 – for about three years after (depression) or so I went to a 14-16 but I’m somewhere between 12 and 14 mostly at 58 so I know I will never see a 4 or even a 10 again…but now I’m old I figure as long as we’re all healthy and happy that’s what matters. I look like my grandmother’s type body frame and that is fine with me – I’m comfortable in my own skin.
These younger plus size (20-33 size) ladies I feel for though, they want to look nice on their special day and the stores should carry more product for them. I know clothes designers design for a "coat-hanger" because the clothes look good on them, but that’s not the real world, unless you live on Venice Beach or in New York City – and most of us live in-between. The store does have a great attitude towards all their customers though don’t they?
October 31, 2010 at 7:30 pm #17534BonbonParticipantThey (Kleinfeld’s) say they now carry plus sizes, but, and this really burns me, they are only up to about a 20. Supposedly plus size is now size 12 and up. Give me a break. Up un til my surgery I was a size 12 and all my friends told me I was too skinny and to go eat something. Yet I was considered a plus size!
Why can’t they at least carry 10 or so really large size dresses so these women can feel what the wedding gown will be for them without lacing them up in back with inserts, etc. which must make them feel like a stuffed pig.
Better to put them in a dress that’s too big than waaay too small. You’re not going to get a larger women in a size 14 or 16. That just ludicrous. I would love to see a size 30 girl go in there and they put her in a dress that actually fits her. I have not seen that happen, even once.
Back to the subject, I was very disappointed Gretchen won. I thought Mondo was a much better designer. I wonder if it had anything to do with his HIV status (which would be a shame).
As for JS, they must have gotten her at one of her "up" moments. It seems like lately she’s been doing a lot of yo-yoing. She was definitely not at her best on this show.
October 31, 2010 at 7:41 pm #1753653tdogsParticipanthave a piece of German Chocolate cake with Haagen Das Vanilla on top! Plus size my biggie butt! (This is aimed at the people in the fashion industry that says a size 12 is plus size!) Heck, Marilyn Monroe was a 14/16 and she had guys (including Presidents and heads of state and big time baseball players) falling at her feet all the time. Gimmmmmme a break! And pass the Hershey bar!
