they must have good reasoning (in their minds anyway) why they think people want to watch these sex scenes and intense kissing matches. Could it be that it appeals to the "younger set" and most of us here have aged a tad? I don’t know but really wonder what drives their motivation.
In MY marriage, at least, most of the outward affection we shared was a quick kiss or a big hug. Everything beyond that took place in the bedroom (well, and once in a while in the back of the movie theater!). Is there anybody here that likes these explicit scenes shown to us or would you rather just have them implied? I don’t mind a mild one when a relationship is brand new because that happens but I think Madsion and Brady and Nicole and EJ are beyond that.
Or…have I just become an old fogie?
January 15, 2012 at 1:54 pm #30453SWParticipantthe same papers we have around my area where there was another ‘massage parlor’ prostitution arrest? It seems that there is definitely an ‘undercover’ (lol) world of massage parlor prostitution. So, maybe the writers think it is okay if a couple does it during a ‘couples’ massage’ where the masseuss never shows up and it becomes a do-it-yourself couples massage or a room rental dyi sex session?

I can only see the increased frequency and boundary pushing of these voyueristic scenes as an avenue to get buzz and ratings. Let’s just be as outrageous as possible, which is the clarion call of current society. It is so contrived and hardly purposeful to the integrity of the SL. I put this solidly at the feet of Ken Corday and always find myself wondering what his parents would think.
January 15, 2012 at 3:23 pm #30455DeeLanParticipantI see it as giving the viewers what they THINK they want. Look at some night time shows that are popular. Most sell sex and seduction. Is that really what the viewers want? I don’t think so but it’s all that we’re offered.
I read an article years ago witih Jackie Mason. He was banned after he appeared on Ed Sullivan and gave "the finger". Aparently Ed had a habit of standing backstage and would indicate to the performer how much time he had left by hand gestures and holding up different fingers. Jackie started using hand gestures and holding up fingers and when he held up his middle finger he was off. He said being a Rabi he had no idea what that gesture meant. He went on to say that entertaiment gives what they think people want and has to go farther and farther to shock. He used Madonna (at the time she was performing and her shows were getting much more explicit) as an example. People pay to see her show so for the next one she has to raise the shock value and people pay so she raises it a bit more. Once people stop paying to see it she’ll stop shocking. It’s the same with movies and television. If we stop paying to see them or stop watching altogether they’ll have to stop what they’re giving us. We all know that won’t happen.
January 15, 2012 at 8:57 pm #30456BonbonParticipantif he said he didn’t know what "the finger" meant. He is one of the filthiest comedians I’ve ever seen. At least Buddy Hacket was funny with his dirty jokes but Mason was just plain disgusting.
But I think you’re right, casey, it’s the shock value. If they can’t wow us with talent, they’ll do it with shock, ergo the popularity of the shock jocks. I can’t for the life of me see how people can watch/listen to those guys, i.e. Stern and Imus. I see no humor in what they have to say WHATSOEVER. Yeah, yeah, I’m getting old.
Actually, I don’t think age has anything to do with it. When I was 27 I saw George Gobel (Ol’ Lonesome George) perform in Las Vagas and he was so raunchy I couldn’t believe it. His TV show was a nice entertaining family show and then he pops that on me. What a disappointment.
The same thing happened to me with Jerry Lewis. Was watching him toss down $1000 bets on the craps table (at 10:00 a.m., bombed out of his gourd, trying to attract as much attention as he could, and swearing up a blue streak. I’ve never liked him since then. And I was only 19 then.
I guess it’s the old saying, "negative attention is better than no attention at all."
January 17, 2012 at 10:52 pm #30470ladyofherbsParticipantDo the writers think we will just drool during any scene wheer the guys remove their shirts? How insulting! If I wanted to watch soft core porn, I would rent a dvd BUT since I do not watch those, why are they pushing scenes like Brady and Madison down our throats? I just flip the channel and return when they are off screen.
January 30, 2012 at 6:56 pm #3066253tdogsParticipantcheaper for them (directors, writers and producers) to have someone rip off their shirt instead of writing good quality material. If you look at box office stats – the real money making movies don’t have that kind of scene in them – the ones that do have those kinds of scenes are headed for the video store after three days in a theater.
January 30, 2012 at 7:03 pm #3066353tdogsParticipantat the football game…there have been a lot of stinkers there (Rosanne Barr for one) – I have Arrowsmith CD’s and like Steven Tyler – but like you said Bon, "negative attention…." – Publicity for the new AI season perhaps? I figure if you are going to pick the next generation of singers – sing well, or have a loud back up band behind you. Hollywood, NFL, et all, quit picking these "entertainers" who cannot sing the song, actor’s who cannot act, comedienans who thing the "F" word is still hysterical (as if it ever was) and writer’s who cannot write a decent storyline.
