Anyone else experience this? This was the 3rd time I got a phone call – get this, at 12:30 at night! – from some foreign guy who says he’s from a Microsoft monitering company and telling me my computer is running viruses. I kept asking him what he’s selling and he insists nothing, but wants to tell me how to fix my computer.
He gave me a number from DC, but haven’t called yet.
Surely this isn’t possible is it? I really gave it to him about the time. but nothing fazes these people.
If you do, I’d suggest calling your local office and asking them about the call. They usually can tell if your computer is sending out viruses or spam stuff. This way, it’s you calling them to find out so you can trust it more than some guy calling in the middle of the night who I am guessing isn’t who he says he is.
RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS TYPE OF SCAM
If you’re computer is sending out viruses it’s in the form of an email and your email provider will notify you BY email since they don’t have your phone number.
There’s NO WAY Microsoft knows what’s happening on your computer and they DON’T call you.
It’s a scam and they’re trying to get you to give them personal information.
get me to fire up my computer which I was having none of. I think I got him a shade offguard when I bashed him about the time of night.
Yeah, he was after something alright – no one would be that persistent.
And I do plan to report this. I was thinking Consumer Protection Agency.
I ask them for their phone number and tell them I’ll call them right back. That usually ends it quite quickly. And, if you think it’s a scam, give the number to the police, they’ll get it to the right place.
