I’m sure many of you watched it. I was disappointed in it, mostly because of how they moved the songs around. They were so inappropriate. They start out with Things That I Love in the abby instead of on the stormy night. I watched The Making Of…which I shouldn’t have done because I kept seeing the kids as the actors instead of the characters.
While it was quite a production and very well done, it just couldn’t hold a candle to the Julie Andrews movie.

December 9, 2013 at 10:57 am #41920BonbonParticipantit to the movie, just that I thought the songs didn’t seem to be appropriate to the scene. I mean, wouldn’t it make sense to have Favorite Things during the storm instead of with the Mother Superior in the abbey? That didn’t make sense to me.
I guess it’s because I’ve seen that movie so many times and probably have to say it’s my all-time favorite, it was hard to watch those inconsistencies. There were other things that were different that didn’t bother me at all. In fact, I enjoyed seeing the “extras” that weren’t in the movie.
JMO, of course.
December 14, 2013 at 2:11 pm #41986caseyParticipantI heard that viewers were disappointed in the program, the ratings were impressive enough to warrant a repeat I think tonight (12/14). I would be interested to see reaction to this without benefit of the film. ABC is "countering" with the movie on the 22nd, but generally SOM is shown annually around Christmas anyway.
December 15, 2013 at 8:48 am #41997BonbonParticipantI can’t imagine they would think they could equal it’s appeal. I think it was an excellent production but you just can’t compare it with Julie’s movie. It’s probably like trying to remake Gone With the Wind, although I don’t find that movie anywhere near as good as SOM.
December 15, 2013 at 1:47 pm #42000caseyParticipantcompare the film with a play-based tv production. Speaking of GWTW I never considered it quite the masterpiece as most. Certainly an epic but as far as entertainment value I much prefer a similarly based film said to "counter" GWTW. That is Bette Davis in Jezebel. Many thought Davis was going to land the Scarlett role but when she didn’t the studio put her in this one. For those who’ve never seen Jezebel worth renting it for Bette’s bravo performance.(even in black and white!)
