but it seems like they lost that when they replaced the red hair! I won’t comment on this actress but will say it’s like the writers can’t decide what direction they want to take the character in and therefore, it makes it painful to watch her scenes. It seems like she would have been more of the ‘goodie two shoes" type character who can be boring.
September 11, 2010 at 11:10 am #16154BonbonParticipantif you FF through her scenes, how can you say you don’t like her when you’re not even watching her? Seriously, I cannot understand what it is so many of you dislike so intensly. Yes, I don’t like some of the things she does but can’t we say that about every other actor? Brady and his (previous) obsession with Nicole, Rafe and his ridiculous obsession with Sami, Sami and her…well, too many things to list here. I think Shelly does an excellent job in her role so I really can’t find anything to dislike.

Days would likely blame her behaviors on daddy Patch being out of her life for so long. And I would applaud that if they addressed this head on. That could be interesting. But just portraying her absurdly deceitful acts simply to hold a man without any sound basis makes superficial Steph very unappealing for me.
September 12, 2010 at 2:40 am #1617653tdogsParticipantI just posted under a replay under SW’s as I agree with her on the red hair comment (good one!) and what the writer’s want to do with her.
I don’t dislike the actress at all…I think she’s doing bang up job based on what she is given to work with. I just think the character hasn’t changed and doesn’t look like she’s going to anytime soon. I would hope the Salem characters grow and change just like us "real folks" do, (at least I hope we do).
Stephanie is the same all the time, always has been – plotting and planning and scheming. I just can’t watch her be the same way all the time – so I don’t.
She’s got what she wanted more than anything in life "a man to love her" – Nathan and yet she cannot be happy. I know there has to be drama because it’s a soap, but goodness girl – lighten up! Enjoy whatcha got!
I guess with Sami, it’s because I don’t have 15 years invested in watching Stephanie like I do Sami. Although, I do believe unless the character of Sami changes radically soon, I will be FFd’ing through her SL’s too! I cannot watch her walk down the aisle for the 12th time for her happily ever after or have another child with the man "she is madly in love with". Sami is getting on my last nerve too lately with her same ol’ same ol’.
Rafe has the right to remain dumb and stupid (about Sami) for a little while longer with me as he’s only had a year and a half to deal with her. And, also, he’s like Bo (Brady and Nathan), a very nice guy. Only one of a few left on the show.
Stephano, the ulitmate bad guy has shown a softer, caring side, of late, as has Victor, (and let’s face it, Victor has had some ultimate zinger lines that have left me smiling for days). So both their characters have changed.
Lexie and Abe aren’t on the show anymore as much but I like them. It’s too bad that they are just orbiting characters, as I would like to see them in more SL’s given their history and longevity on the show. Chloe better change too, Daniel also, that’s why I’d like him to be the one (who did the thing that I can’t mention here you know, the one that Stephanie is hell-bent on finding out)
Vivian, I used to love (years ago) for comic relief and her SL with Carly. When she came back and it’s droned on and on about first Lawerence and now Maggie (and the fact that they haven’t brought back Ivan for her to get into trouble with), is close enough for me to be rooting for her to be in the casket for awhile – a little while, I still love her.
Maggie is fairly new to me, as she was just on the fringes of SL’s in the last 20 years I’ve been watching and Maggie is very likable. I’m liking her story line – will she – won’t she with Victor…(get involved, not the other thing).
I’m still holding out that Mel and Phillip will progress in their relationship one way or the other some day soon. Phillip has changed a lot (face transplant and all) – even though he’s still spoiled and petulant.
EJ, for me, could put a box over his head and just stand there and I’d watch him (but then, that’s just me).
Shoot even Kate isn’t in her kids face all the time, now that she’s got Stephano to take care of. Plus, I think that she of all the baddies, at least stops for a moment and you can see her wheels clicking about repercussions of her actions.
I’m not even going to mention Hope or Bo because of all their major story line changes over the past few years and they still keep it fresh and interesting.
Nicole, had a really good story line for two years, if the writers would give something good to Stephanie instead of the same ol’ I need a man, baby switch because I’m afraid the man I have will leave me ! Honey, if you have a man on that basis he was never yours to begin with. Grow up Stephanie!
Ok – it was either a very long post trying to ‘splain how I like or "dislike" my beloved folks on Days or trying to find something on the tube to watch tonight. Why is it DVR stuff never sounds good when I sit down to watch it?
September 12, 2010 at 11:27 am #16181BonbonParticipantIt sounds interesting when I record it but when I go to watch it, blah, my interest is gone. I’ve tried to get interested in The Glads (being how it’s filmned practically in my backyard but the stories just aren’t any good. We’ve got free HBO and Cinimax next weekend so I’m hoping to find some good movies.
I ODed on 9-11 specials last night but saw some very interesting new stuff. They had an hour and a half of footage (without any commentary or commercials) of ordinary everyday people who had filmed. One very disturbing thing was a man jumping out of the window and he was on fire. OMG, that was horrible. I counted and it took him seven seconds to hit the bottom. Can you imagine what must have been going through his mind?
Sorry for going OT there.
September 12, 2010 at 1:49 pm #16186DeeLanParticipantPammy…I agree with everything you said but I do remember Maggie when she first came on as the farm girl in crutches taking in Marty Hansen. I was there when she had her surgery to be able to walk, her affiar with Don Craig and her alcoholism. Maggie hasn’t changed over the years, she’s just gotten wiser and I’m glad they don’t portray her as the town busy body anymore.
When I think of Vivian and Ivan I can’t help remember the time Stephano put that chip in her tooth and she decided she was going skydiving with Ivan right behind her trying to talk her out of it all the way down and Stefano driving trying to get to her in time to stop her.
I’m still holding out that Mel and Phillip will progress in their relationship one way or the other some day soon. Phillip has changed a lot (face transplant and all) – even though he’s still spoiled and petulant. As conniving as Melanie startd out she’s really trying to make her marriage to Phillip work even though she has feelings for Nathan.
Shoot even Kate isn’t in her kids face all the time, now that she’s got Stephano to take care of. Plus, I think that she of all the baddies, at least stops for a moment and you can see her wheels clicking about repercussions of her actions. Kate’s run all of her kids out of town except for Phillip and he’s got Victor that will make sure Kate doesn’t go overboard with her manipulations of his life.
