Between Alli telling Johnny that she would see for him and then Johnny telling EJ and Sami that he was remembering what they look like by feeling their faces, I am a sobbing fool. So sad, but well done by Johnny and Alli. Also, the scenes with Sami, Nicole and Rafe were touching, but why is EJ still so cold and selfish?
January 13, 2011 at 10:33 pm #20048BonbonParticipantbut Will had to throw it back in his face, not that he wasn’t justified, but he could have just said, "you’re welcome."
He also thanked Nicole for finding the problem in Johnny’s eye and at the end he put his arm around Sami to comfort her. I would say these things showed a little bit of softening.
Yes, I agree, this was a gut wrenching episode and I shed a good amount of tears, the same place you did mommytutu.
January 13, 2011 at 10:34 pm #20049NoraParticipantI know I cried today too, even with Sami at the end, I could really feel her heart breaking. Because EJ is just a plain selfish cold hearted bastard. and it’s his hatred for Rafe. Frankly, I dont think it’s Rafe personally, but any man that Sami would date or marry besides EJ he would hate.
January 13, 2011 at 10:51 pm #20051PattiParticipantWonderful acting today; terrific script; sad but enormously believable. Had my heart breaking, but everyone coming together for little Johnny’s sake was a blessing to behold. Sure, E.J. is extremely jealous of Rafe, but I think more-so because he knows Johnny loves him and he can’t stand that fact. But he did manage to be civil, and that, in and of itself, was miraculous. Everyone was brilliant today. Now, if the writers can continue along these lines by having the doctors save Johnny’s eye, I would be thrilled. Here comes the change I’ve been hoping for in E.J., He finally gets it, and so does Sami, that THE most important thing they can do to help their son is exactly what they did today. I just hope it continues.
January 13, 2011 at 11:10 pm #20052caseyParticipantand Johnny really played the part today. I am always a fan of Ari, what a terrific actress she is with all kind of range.
January 14, 2011 at 12:25 am #20055BonoSugaRayParticipantI, for one, thought EJ was AMAZING today! He wasn’t selfish/evil/dirty-hearted, or anything. And yeah, the little actor who plays the role of Johnny, is absolutely, without a doubt, AMAZINGLY ADORABLE! He’s so go with his character. And yeah, my heart sort of softened up, when he felt on both his parents’ faces, and then said that he was doing it as a way to remember what they looked like.
January 14, 2011 at 3:58 am #2005753tdogsParticipantremainder of the goings on in Salem, got a bit misty-eyed at the show today. That is two weeks in a row writers that you hit it outta the ball park (last Thursday and today)…keep it up! This is the kind of story and writing of "good ol’ Days" that I love and missed!!!
January 14, 2011 at 10:06 am #20062SWParticipant"I’ll see for you" gave me a nightmare that if it came down to an eye transplant for Johnny, Stefano being in charge of the organ thing, I could see Stefano not hesitating to take Ali’s eye(s) for Johnny. I know, horrid thought but if they are going that way and it was JER writing, I wouldn’t doubt it would be foreshadowing! They are twins after all. Stefano has no connection to Ali so he could care less about her and it would just be more torture for Sami. This is just thoughts with no spoiler related info!
January 14, 2011 at 2:02 pm #20064caseyParticipantthe science wasn’t there for an eye transplant.
January 14, 2011 at 2:10 pm #20065luckeyParticipantbrother a reminder about his attitude. I loved how she was the consumate sister in the way she reminded him. I was also glad she did it in front of Sami.
January 14, 2011 at 2:33 pm #20066ta143ParticipantI loved the way she laid it down like a big sister should!
January 14, 2011 at 2:33 pm #20067DeeLanParticipantI thought he said the science wasn’t there for a case like Johnny’s. I take that to mean eye transplants have been done but not in someone Johnny’s age or not for the condition he has. That leaves it wide open if he does loose the other eye for Stefano to insist he try.
From what I’ve read when an eye transplant is mentioned they’re almost always referring to a corneal transplant. Because the optic nerve has millions of fibers that need to be cut and reattached the technology for a total eye transplant is years away but they are working on it. They’re at the stage now to try to regenerate optic nerves and replace damaged retinal cells with implanted ones. Now if Dr. Rolf was still around he’d have the technology to do what needed to be done.
January 14, 2011 at 2:35 pm #20068ta143ParticipantI’m grateful for that bit of reality.
