Wow, Cochran came so close to ousting Ozzy. I think if he had taken the maze challenge a bit slower toward the end- as he had the time to do – the outcome might have been different.

I felt sorry for him at first, but he turned into a little wormy snake.  However, the previews kinda indicated that Oz gets tromped by Edna next week…not sure if that was just a teaser like so many of the commericals are.  I’d rather so much see one of the others like Sophie or the cowboy get the money prize instead of these cock-of-the-walk very strange people like Brandon, coach (small "c" intentional) or Ozzy.

Finale live show is December 18th, so I guess Jeff will get to go on his honeymoon, he should know some really good places to take his newest bride.

Although Cochran is a weasley little guy, I have to admire him for his strategy.  He’s probably more knowledgable about the "game" of Survivor than anyone, anywhere.  He played the game with more thought and cunning than we are giving him credit for.  I was really kind of hoping he WOULD beat Ozzie.  Now THAT would have been a "blindside" I’d like to see.

I can’t for the life of me understand why Brandon is lasting so long.  The only thing I can think of is that if someone takes him to the final two, nobody will vote for the the jerk.  And, after seeing his father, I understand that the whole family is, shall we say, disfunctional, mal-adjusted?  I thought Edna made an excellent plea to stay in the game.

Sophie and Rick (isn’t that Cowboy’s name?) are flying completely under the radar all the way.  There seems to be at least one of these in every show.  In fact, a couple of times, one of these innocuous nobodies even suprisingly won the $1M.

As far as Edna beating Oz, I’m certain that was just a teaser.  More and more I’m believing how these "reality" shows are being "pre-determined," therefore, I think we’re going to see Coach (he still has the idol) and Ozzie in the final three, maybe even the final two.  Remember, you heard it here.

prediction of the final outcome Bon.  I’ve only watched two season of this show (one wayyyyyyyy back when it first started and now this one).  I tend to want the underdog to win in games (we’ll see this weekend in football), which is why my choice would be Sophie or Rick.

I wish that they’d play repeats of the prior seasons so I could watch all the way through and see the different tactics of the game.  (No, I’m not going to go out and by the DVD – not that much of a fan).  Many of my friends have watched every season they predicted the exact same thing you said about Oz and coach being in the finale.

I think Brandon is in the show exactly for what you said the high drama and ratings of the show and Probst and his gang milk it for all it’s worth…because I don’t think that Brandon would be a very interesting person to know in "real life".

unfortunately, he was not the strongest.  I really thought he could win it, but knew that if he had to go up against one of the other stronger players on RI, that would be it for him.  I’m losing interest now on who will win.  Guess now I just don’t care.  Personally, I think this whole reality show is running out of gas.

the hunger factor. In seasons gone by this was a primary element, with members exisiting on rice and having to carefully ration, and food rewards were the key motivation in challenges.
Also, what bugs me is, as was stated, you’re seeing do nothing win nothing contestants taking the prize. Since when is that “Outplay, Outwit?” These weaker players simply hang back in their alliance, don’t make waves and end up winning because the dominant players have made so many enemies on the jury.
Maybe that’s why ratings are down.

been about surviving.  The contestants aren’t on that island alone, they have camera crews, helicopter transport, nurse/doctor staff, etc.  If any one of them were hungry and fainted from being really truly hungry they’d have a medical staff there immediately.  They are not really starving like children in Africa or in Northern Korea, where you die of starvation.

I even think that they have make-up crews to smudge just the right amount of dirt on their faces and clothing to look good for the cameras…these folks may be sleeping on a beach, but it’s a television show, there is no real hardship, no danger, no fighting for food to live…that’s why I’ve only watched a couple of seasons, if you really want to make it survivor – let’s make it survival of the fittest no rice, no water rationing, one camera man, and none of these silly games in-between.  Let them hunt for actual food that has been hidden instead of a silly rhyming note found in a tree.  Go Roman or Greek survival games on them, that would bring up the ratings.  I wonder if the American people would watch that kind of survival game – I think it would knock the ratings right out of the roof!  Heck, they don’t even have to go to an island, survive in the back streets of Detriot, or Watts, or a swamp in Louisiana.

about the food.  First of all, no crew can ever interfere with the contestants unless it’s an emergency, life-threatening medical issue.  And I think we’re not seeing the same lack of food issues we saw in the past, only because after watching this many seasons of the show, I guess it’s assumed we know how hungry they are.  Remember Ozzie saying he wanted to go to RI so he could eat and get his strength up?  And remember how they all dug into that disgusting ham?  Even to the point of making themselves sick.  Only someone starving could have done that.

And, no, they are not starving like the kids in Africa because they’ve been provided with the essential necessities to be able to stay healthy…rice and the fresh fruit available on the island along with any fish they can catch and the rewards (chickens) they win.  One year they caught rats, cooked them and ate them.  A couple of times they ate bugs too (ants, grubs, and worms).

As far as I can tell, the only thing they’ve been provided with outside of rewards were bathing suits since so many of them were running around in their underwear.  I think that caused too many cases of having to blur out private parts during challenges.  They did this last season too but that’s the only time I can remember seeing that.  Everything else they’ve gotten has been by way of reward challenges.  Heck, they have to brush their teeth with sticks.

I think Mark Barnett (and now Jeff Probst too) is one of the smartest producers of "reality" shows on the air.  He makes just enough changes to keep it fresh yet stays true to the main idea of the initial show.  The only thing I don’t like is that I do believe some of the stuff is manipulated but I firmly believe they are not given any help at all.

There was a special on TV about Survivor a couple of years ago that went behind the scenes and explained a lot about what and how the cameras worked.  They emphasized that there was absolutely no interaction (not even words) exchanged between the camera and sound men and the contestants.  And the crew quarters are far from where the contestants are.  They only see that area once they are voted off and either go home or are on the panel.
