I’m not sure where they are going by taking her statement.  Yes, she falsely accused Jennifer but she had already recanted that statement which is why Jennifer was released.  But, to my knowledge, lying about your baby dying is not against the law.  I don’t know what she did that they needed to get a statement.  Heck, threatening suicide isn’t illegal either.  In some states you can be unvoluntarily "admitted" for evaluation/observation for 24 hours but not arrested.

No, I’m afraid Nicole’s only consequences now are sheer humiliation.

she lied, knew she lied, and then made an accusation which resulted in Jen being put in jail.  The fact that she recanted her statement showed that she falsley accused someone of killing her baby, resulting in that person to go to jail, all the while knowing her child was dead.  What would be the legal terminology for that?

they would have charged her then, when they released Jen, and not waited until now.

all she did was say that she "wasn’t sure" that Jennifer pushed her down the stairs; that she may have lost her balance and fell.  Therefore, she was no longer accusing Jennifer of killing her baby; hence, they had to let Jen go.  Now, she has admitted in a taped statement that not only did she know her baby was already dead before she fought with Jen, but also that she lied when she said Jen pushed her, resulting in her baby’s death.
