That’s the first debate I’ve ever watched with any particular interest. I thought it went very well and was surprised to see Romney come out the winner. It gives me much more confidence now in voting for him.
I just wish they had addressed the lies and inaccuracies we are seeing on TV these days. Some are so blatant I don’t know how anybody with an ounce of intelligence can believe them. I wish there could be some kind of reform of political advertising. And outlaw the damn phone calls. I swear, I’ll bet I’ve gotten at least 50 this election. ENOUGH!

Romney was the more agressive of the two, but that would be expected with him being the challenger; however, having said that, Obama was a bit too laid back. I also wanted to hear more explanation of the those horrid accusations that are being made from both camps in those incessant media ads that we can’t seem to get away from. I don’t usually watch political debates, but I’m glad I watched this one.
October 4, 2012 at 11:47 pm #35730caseyParticipanta no holds barred debate. Just let the candidates go to it – with no time limits or rebuttals or polite civility. You’d see the real guys come out in no time and I think it would be quite entertaining and enlightening!
October 5, 2012 at 1:48 am #35735PattiParticipantthe moderator, on the other hand, was a joke.
The critiques came from several sides of the media spectrum.
“Boy, Jim Lehrer got rolled over,” MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said on “Morning Joe” on Thursday morning. “You could see an exasperated look on Jim’s face when they would just keep plowing right over him,” said Gretchen Carlson on “Fox & Friends” on Fox News. Speaking on CNBC Thursday morning, Steve Liesman offered up what he called a “private-sector solution” to the moderator dilemma: “Why can’t the two guys just take care of themselves?”
I could not agree more!!!
October 5, 2012 at 9:30 am #35741BonbonParticipant(contrary to what a lot of talking-heads believed) that they "rolled over" Jim Lehrer. I thought it was his decision to let them continue as he did so they could get their point(s) across. He is an experienced moderator and I’m sure he could have put his foot down if he thought it was necessary or if they strayed from the topic.
I think a lot of people would like to see an unmoderated debate but they probably believe we would not get to see enough content because the candidates might continue to belabor one specific point because, obviously, if they hit on something "hot" neither one of them would let go of it and want to rebut the other’s comments. This way they get to cover several important areas.
At least this debate made me feel Romney is well-qualified to be president. Although I don’t usually watch debates, I’m looking forward to the next one. But I’m willing to bet Mr. O. will be intensely and much better prepared and "worked on" by then.
October 5, 2012 at 9:34 am #35742BonbonParticipant"Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine…" thing, huh?
Yes, I think you’d be much better at seeing the extent of the person’s full understanding of the issues and much more of their REAL personalities.
October 5, 2012 at 2:50 pm #35748PattiParticipantwere not right on the money where Jim Lehrer was concerned. The candidates talked over Lehrer’s attempts to keep them to time restrictions, and the moderator’s open-ended questions frequently lacked sharpness, let alone authority to control the candidates’ responses. Eventually, Lehrer gave up trying to control the situation entirely.
October 5, 2012 at 8:37 pm #35755justwonderingParticipantI agree with you, Patti, that the moderator did not control the debate. I was disappointed that the President didn’t seemed as prepared as Mr. Romney. Some pundits have said that the incumbant is at a disadvantage in the first debate. I guess thaty are not use to defending their actions.
Romney has been practicing since the Republican Convention. He was very well prepared, although some of what he said seemed to contradict his earlier statements. He has certainly made the election more interesting. ZI look forward to the next debate to see what comes next!!
