Did I miss something? I thought Rafe and Arianna were raised by the nuns. Where did the mother and little sister come from all of a sudden?
December 18, 2009 at 2:56 pm #8537mommytutuParticipantYes, I was curious too. When he first came on the show he took Sami to the convent and stated that he grew up in the orphanage there. Did they change the story of Rafe so quickly?
December 18, 2009 at 4:17 pm #8541DeeLanParticipantRafe’s past is a mystery, coming out it bits and pieces. Since we’ve never heard anything about Arianna being raised in the convent but came to that conclusion based on Rafe’s history. One possibility, Rafe was adopted or he was always in trouble and the nuns were to straighten him out.
December 18, 2009 at 5:06 pm #8545June66watcherParticipantI cannot remember back to those conversations at the Convent, but yes, Rafe spent some time w/the sisters. So was he a little ‘hellion’ so Mom was glad to be rid of him or was Mom an abused person who Rafe escaped from rather than stay home and ‘fight’ or get ‘beaten up’ by the ‘father figure’? I find it strange that "Mom" allows her teenager (don’t even know that she’s the youngest in the family yet) to go visit her siblings for this extended period of time. Makes you wonder if Mom is incarcerated or busy taking care of an ill family member? There is such an empty canvas with the Hernandez family!
December 18, 2009 at 5:32 pm #8551DeeLanParticipantYesterday when Gaby was talking to Chad she mentioned staying in Salem and switching schools. He asked if she’d be staying with her family and she said no. On her own. Aren’t high school kids still considered underage to be living on their own unless they go to court and get emancipated? Don’t you need a parent’s signature or something to enroll in school, unless it’s college?
December 18, 2009 at 5:36 pm #8552June66watcherParticipantwhat is really going on. And, why aren’t the older siblings at least concerned? Mom allows the teen to travel on her own, stay away from home! Maybe little Missy is not as truthful as her youthful face would make us believe. I wondered, for a time, if she could be the long lost daughter Carly is looking for, but the ‘staying at Maggie’s to be close to her daughter’ changed that thought pattern.
December 19, 2009 at 12:36 am #8573GoodyParticipantSometimes I am convinced that all the writers do not have a family history for this family. It is as if they are just making it up as they go, and quite often it just does not match what has already been written earlier. I think we have too much "Hernandez" too soon.
I started out liking Rafe; thought he was a nice guy; now, not so much. Arianna, I could do without all together (don’t care for this actor). So far Gabby is the best of the bunch. Their mother, I totally dislike, and we have never even seen her.
I feel as if I have been overdosed on "Hernandez" trivia, but no real family facts. JMHO

December 19, 2009 at 2:52 am #857553tdogsParticipantYou’d think the writer’s would be able to access some kind of computer program that would keep track of the histories that they write for the charactor’s – but perhaps they choose to ignore history as they have done many, many times – as we all well know!
December 19, 2009 at 11:19 am #8581SWParticipant"grew up in the orphanage". It could mean that he was an orphan and lived there, it could also mean that he spent time there because he had to make some penance for what he did, or it could also mean that he felt good about himself when he was there and the nuns made him grow up into the man he now is. I thought it was the latter.
December 19, 2009 at 11:26 am #8582SWParticipantshe came for Thanksgiving and she hasn’t gone back yet and it’s now Christmas, WHY hasn’t she been going to school all along at least somewhere? I thought since she was living at the Brady Pub, it would be Arianna that was taking care of her. I’m sure Rafe thinks she is the one watching her. He’s certainly got his hands full watching Sami’s twins, hunting for Sydney, and giving advice to Will too.
December 19, 2009 at 1:00 pm #8586BonbonParticipantI think the biggest example of the writers ignoring history is Philip’s leg. It appears he grew a new one and is no longer needing the prosthetic one. Of course, look at the beautiful job they did with his face transplant also.
December 19, 2009 at 1:55 pm #8593PattiParticipantbecause fans tend to lost interest in a family who just wanders into their little town of Salem, completely unknown to anyone, and suddenly becomes a ‘major’ character in an on-going even more major storyline, well, we just don’t seem to care about them. And, that’s what has happened with the Hernandezes. They are butting into lives of people we know and love, and yet we still know very little about the siblings or their parents. I know one thing for sure, and that’s that I absolutely love Rafe and Sami, but Ari and Brady are beginning to bore me. Now, I did see some interesting tension between Ari and E.J., but the only thing I can say about Gabbi is the writers are really screwing this teen over with bad writing. Who does what she does at, what, 16? Nobody, unless you’re a runaway, and even then, if it can’t be explained logically, then don’t say or use it in a storyline. Right now Gabbi is a bust for me as well. But, we can all pose questions and/or suggestions til’ the cows come home, but if these writers choose not to explain the mystery surrounding the Hernandez family, I’m afraid fans will continue to feel disjointed from them. By the way, I thought Rafe was a little over-the-top with what he did to Stefano, but like he said, "LIKE HE GIVES A DAMN." I can’t believe so many are finding fault with the legalities of what Rafe is doing compared to what Stefano, E.J., and other like them have done. He (Rafe) DOESN’T CARE how it looks, or to whom. I think he is great to look after Sami the way that he does, and his intentions are honorable where Sydney is concerned, even though he knows what the consequences may cause him. Kudos, Rafe. It’s nice to have a genuine good guy around for a change.
December 19, 2009 at 6:57 pm #860053tdogsParticipantMaybe Rafe and Sami are being groomed to be the next long term super couple? Bo and Hope are sure looking bad these days, Marlena and John are long gone, Maggie won’t have Micky, so there has got to be a "good couple" to combat the bunch of baddies running around like EJ, Nicole (and they both do it so well). Stefi is getting up there (no offense Mr. Demira) as is Victor and Vivi. Kate is more annoying than bad and she is never paired with anyone long enough besides, she’s irredeemable. (All though I love all the baddies too – after all, we wouldn’t have these great story lines without them – "bless" their little dark hearted minds.)
December 23, 2009 at 8:56 pm #8767PunkyParticipantinteresting in the least is Rafe. I HATE that they changed the actress for Arianna. I was just starting to gain interest in this character. Now I feel she has lost all of her edge and spunk. Brady is the main focus. Her and Brady are not a hot couple IMO. I could care less. Now Gabbi just magically appears with no real purpose. The lack of backstory is a huge part of why I think to myself who gives a crap about these people? Yes writers let’s get rid of Hortons and Bradys and bring on new people. Sheesh it’s about balance. Give us a reason to care about the Hernandez sisters.
