Or darn, I though Maks was going to be back this season. And poor Tristan, why does he always get the old ladies? And Derrick sure didn’t get a certain finalist this year. I bet he won’t be doing any lifts this season. :o)
September 4, 2013 at 10:57 pm #40966PattiParticipantguess they couldn’t settle their differences. The girl who will be dancing with Derek Hough is a regular from the cast of Glee, and she can dance as well as sing; but, you’re probably right about limiting the lifts, but I’ve seen this girl dance on Glee, and she’s good. But, then, ballroom is another story. Even good dancers have to adjust great lengths to master ballroom. Some can…..other, not so much.
Valerie Harper was a surprise. According to her first announcement of an incurable brain tumor sure took a turn for the better. When first announced late last year, it was believed she only had months to live, and now here she is on Dancing with the Stars. Go figure. I wish her well, though. Always loved her on the Mary Tyler Moore Show as well as the spin-off, Rhoda.
What in the hell was Maks’ brother wearing today? I think someone (maybe Tom) said he was “rocking those pajamas,” and the look on Val’s face said, to me anyway, that he was not amused.
Looking forward to the show again this season, but I could have done without Snookie and the other Osborne sibling.
September 5, 2013 at 8:10 am #40972BonbonParticipantthem including people who can’t possibly keep up with the physicality of the show. I don’t think it serves any purpose. When they hire these older people, what do they expect them to do? I fully admire Valery trying it out but, let’s face it, she’s 74 years old. That’s one year older than I am and as athletic as I’ve been my entire life, there is no way in hell I could do those dances.
Look who they have included in the past. Cloris Leachman, Buzz Aldrin, Florence Henderson…those are only a couple that I can think of off-hand. We know they aren’t going to go far, unless it’s on a sympathy vote. Not only that, they are subjecting themselves to serious injury at their age. Why not just stick to people who could possible win.
And, on that note, what happened to not having people with previous dance experience? They seem to be moving away from that also. There are several “dancers” on this time.
Nevertheless, I’m again looking forward to one of my most favorite shows of all. It’s one I just can’t miss.
September 5, 2013 at 1:13 pm #40978PattiParticipantbut I can’t help but feel sorry for the pros who draw them (if that’s even how they go about it — wish they would reveal that sometime). I know it’s just supposed to be entertainment, and it is; but, I’m sure these pros just shake their heads when they draw a much older partner. I’m shocked Derek got one this year. I was beginning to believe he had some major pull in who his partners were in the past.
September 5, 2013 at 7:31 pm #40987caseyParticipantValerie having the endurance or flexability to take on this challenge. But I give her all the credit. I’m hoping it means her health is stable. But I can’t line up the inoperable brain tumor with obvious health risks involved with dancing.
September 6, 2013 at 7:54 am #40995BonbonParticipantif there wasn’t a little bit of media sensationalism involved in her prognosis at the beginning. It’s not often that doctors will say you only have a couple of months to live. They will more likely say that your illness is critical and you should put your life in order but NO human can predict how long one will live.
I’m especially suspect of that because they said she had an untreatable tumor and yet, here she is getting treatment for it and apparently successful treatment at that.
Having gone through chemo therapy myself, I don’t know how she can possibly have the stamina it takes to keep up with all that physical punishment. All it can say is, you go girl. I’m behind you 100%.
September 6, 2013 at 7:55 am #40994BonbonParticipantOops, double post.
September 6, 2013 at 8:32 pm #41006caseyParticipantInoperable or untreatable? Did she say what form of treatment she’s being given?
Wish her all the best.September 6, 2013 at 9:16 pm #41009BonbonParticipant"untreatable" when it was first announced. That’s why I said I thought they were just trying to hype up the drama. And they showed her getting chemo, although she said said she is receiving some other therapy also.
September 6, 2013 at 9:21 pm #41010PattiParticipantfrom when the cast of the Mary Tyler Moore show was on, and Valerie Harper repeats the story of her illness. She was diagnosed in January with terminal cancer of her brain, but with very moderate symptoms at that time. However, she was given 3 months to live when diagnosed. According to Valerie, the cancer originated in her lungs and spread to her brain, and she was told there was nothing further the doctors could do. Her condition was considered terminal. Well, here we are eight months later and she looks and feels fine and has now been told that for some unexplained reason her condition is in remission. She did have some treatments, and I know that research has come a long way, and God bless her, I hope she is the example of seeing is believing. I’ll never forget her line when she was on Katie when asked how she could be so up-beat with this terrible diagnosis, and she said she always reminds herself, her husband, her family, and her friends: “don’t go to the funeral until the day of the funeral.” I wish her the best. She’s a wonderfully perky and lovely woman.
