They were talking about Mike coming and that Grandma Horton was holding on just for his arrival. So Mike gets in a supposed accident and is not there when Grandma Horton dies, denying her a last visit and him as well.
Was there really a point to this little plot diversion? I question the logic as I question a lot of the logic lately, but this was really something very unneccessary. Is there anyone who can offer a positive point to this occurrence?
I am pleased so many past talents returned to the show. It is a nice tribute to the grand matriarch of the show though. She will always be there in spirit in all the actions and deeds of many of the characters.

I’m sure there will be some guilt or angst ridden trauma that Mike will suffer for not making it in time. Also, do we know yet who was in the other vehicle? That may play into it, too.
June 23, 2010 at 9:56 pm #13896JohnnyboyParticipantI could see the angst and guilt if he was coming back long term and we could see how this played out. I thought that these characters were only coming for the death and funeral and then they would fade into the sunset, never to return again possibly. I would love to see a few of them stay on, but that is not too likely.
June 23, 2010 at 10:49 pm #13900DeeLanParticipantMaybe it was Tommy.
A great storyline would be Jeremy rushing back but no one knowing and he was the driver of the other car.

"Days" accomodated him and he post-taped all 3 of his episodes a week later. So, since he couldn’t be in the group scenes, he had to be in a separate place, in this case, the hospital room, for his scenes.
June 24, 2010 at 11:18 am #13907BonbonParticipantwhat their payroll must be right now. Talk about splurging! Let’s see, they’ve added: Shane, Melissa, Marie, Jennifer, Bill, Laura, Kayla, Mike, Carrie, who have I forgotten?
June 24, 2010 at 11:27 am #13908SWParticipantso even though they paid for them, I’m sure it wasn’t nearly as much as if they had hired them on a regular contract basis. The actors might have taken cuts for Frances’ memory too. We don’t really know what deals were made. It’s interesting the Fauxman, John, & Marlena aren’t there. The comments from many of those in SOD indicated that they were grateful to be invited to appear in honor of Alice/Frances. I believe Shane was the only one that said he wouldn’t appear just to be in a few funeral scenes. Melissa, Jennifer, Carrie, and Laura indicated that they weren’t doing much acting lately. Not sure on Bill or Marie. Mike is doing two other shows. I think Shane is between shows right now. If you’re not employed in acting, I’m sure that being offered a quick/even cheap gig is preferable to having nothing.

Too bad they built up all this business about Mike seeing Alice before she passed – that kind of set us all up for a disappointment

June 24, 2010 at 2:10 pm #13918PattiParticipantthat really left me scratching my head and wondering ‘why in the hell would they do that,’ and this was one of them. I saw no reason for Mike to be in a car accident on his way home, only to wind up in the hospital and not get to visit with Alice. They could just as easily have him held up in traffic, maybe even due on an accident, and kept him from arriving in time. Even then, he could have spent some time with Alice after she passed. I just didn’t see the logic in it, especially since he did not appear hurt in any way whatsoever. But, of course, we would have had no reason to listen to Dr. Lexi’s brilliant deduction – "well, we have to wait for the test results." The whole idea of it just did not gel for me.
June 24, 2010 at 6:40 pm #13930BonbonParticipantI’m sure Mike is familiar with being released AMA (Against Medical Advice). He could have just gotten up, put his clothes on and left. As important as it was, that would have been the logical thing to do, especially since he wasn’t hurt.
June 24, 2010 at 8:30 pm #13936Ms. JakeParticipantI’m sure bringing back these characters will be a BIG hit with the fans!! So….bringing back John & Marlena even for a storyline will be a big welcomed hit as well!
June 25, 2010 at 6:09 pm #13961bradysgmaParticipantBonbon, you forgot Lucas. He’s been off the show for a while, and seems to be going back to Hong Kong now.

June 26, 2010 at 12:31 am #13972TimParticipantI guess it makes sense to that people come back into town for a funeral, but they don’t stick around for too long afterwards.
However, I’ve really enjoyed seeing all the old characters and have made extra point to watch just because of that. If I were representative of the audience then they’d do best to find ways to move them back into town.
June 26, 2010 at 2:31 am #13977macrrParticipantwhy bring him back at all then? While it is nice to see him, it seems like a big waste of time and money, unless they are going to keep him.
