He came on originally and Bo turned to him to be Carly’s lawyer to get her off for killing Lawrence. To me, Carly had less of a case than Hope does? He should have been telling her he could be her lawyer and get her off since she wasn’t in her right mind when she did the crimes! Geesh!
August 10, 2010 at 12:15 am #15306caseyParticipantright now and her judgment is clouded by a mega guilt trip. I understand her concern for Ciara but how is a long prison haul going to help her daughter in the long run?
August 10, 2010 at 1:55 am #15307daysbrokenwingsParticipantas a POLICE OFFICER you should know you NEVER go into court without a great attorney, NEVER. Obviously, Hope is NOT thinking clearly. Isn’t there a defense that would get her into a hospital that could help her. It wouldn’t even have to involve Ciera. IMHO
August 10, 2010 at 11:20 am #15308BonbonParticipantHope says she doesn’t want to put her daughter through the trauma of a trial? But she’d rather take her mother away from her? Yeah, that’s real smart. I just can’t stand to sit there and watch Hope tring to be such a martyr, all supposedly for the sake of her child. Does she think she not going to be even more traumatized seeing her mommy go to jail for so long? She’s already crying her eyes out.
I just can’t abide where they’re going with this story line. Who in the world would want to (or should?) take punishment for something they had no control over? Yes, the anger was there but that’s what sane people do, they control it and prevent a person from acting out in violence. That control was taken away from her which certainly makes her not responsible for her actions.
In the real world, Justin would have conferred with Bo and Doug and Julie and petitioned the court to have her temporarily committed for examination to find out if, indeed, it was the pills that motivated her.
Bah! After presenting us with such a good storyline, they have to end it like this, so far from reality that we can’t even get a glimpse of it.
August 10, 2010 at 12:25 pm #15312bluebonnetParticipantWhen people commit crimes while strung out on drugs, they don’t get a break, do they? Just thinking that being on drugs may not be much of a defense/excuse. "Reason of insanity" doesn’t seem to be used much anymore, but then again, this show isn’t real life. But I do agree with the rest of you that Hope isn’t helping Ciara at all by refusing a lawyer’s help.
August 10, 2010 at 2:25 pm #15320drea4713ParticipantNothing wrong or immoral about having anger, but it’s what you do with it. And to everyone who knows Hope it’s obvious the pills took away her power to choose how to handle her anger. Seems like a walk in the park for any decent defense lawyer.
August 10, 2010 at 3:15 pm #15323dvalParticipantThis is really just soooo stupid. I thought the same thing when she said she didn’t want to put her daughter through a trial.Oh great, but let mommy go to jail and now Ciara can go live in the "bad" house with the daddy that Hope wanted her kept away from and the nasty lady who moved in on daddy. DUMBBBBBBB!
However, this is another case of Hope’s blind eye when it comes to Ciara. Everything she did with Ciara’s wellfare as the excuse has backfired on her and this is just one more case of that. With a good lawyer she would probably be able to plead a deal and possibly avoid jail all together as long as they can prove it was the pills, especially since this is not a case of a druggie who was strung out on cocaine. This was someone who had a bad reaction to a legal drug. Yes the anger was the motivator but without the pills she would never have acted on it.
August 10, 2010 at 3:30 pm #15325DeeLanParticipantI’m not sure if I’d say Hope was strung out on drugs. Yes she was under the influence but they were prescription drugs and the sleepwalking or alternate life while on this medication is a known side effect. She wasn’t taking obtaining them illegally or abusing them but taking them at night so she could sleep under a doctor’s care so she might have a defense with that.
August 10, 2010 at 3:40 pm #1532653tdogsParticipantSenerio here > I can just imagine in a few months or so in jail after Hope has paid for her crimes (as she wished to do). Then, after a time, she is released from prison.
Bo and Carly are still together, Ciara is living with B&C. Ciara is SORAS’d to a teen and giving Bo, Carly and every one else in Salem fits – she is ten times worse than Sami was when she saw John and Marlena in the board room on the table. In fact, that could be why Hope is let out early from prison.
Hope blames Ciara’s teenage terror on being "raised" by Carly, (Hope will not, of course, be taking responsiblity for her part in how her child turned out). Carly and Bo having a falling out due to Ciara’s minipulations – Bo siding with Hope… and voila! One big happy Salem family with lot’s of future story lines – troubled teen, family on edge, jilted misunderstood lover, yada-yada.
August 10, 2010 at 7:54 pm #15333MKParticipantHope absolutely has a great defense. Even Carly said to Bo in yesterday’s show that now that Hope is not taking the pills, the anger may still there but not the behavior( which was the muggings.) Immediately they should have examined this pill issue more. Look at the side effects more closely, talk to doctors. This is so ridiculous. Hope is an outstanding member of Salem, has a long history with the town and well respected. Now she just wants to rot in jail for a while for actions she is not responsible for.
August 10, 2010 at 9:35 pm #1533853tdogsParticipantbut why if the writer’s wrote a scene of Hope removing all of her personnel possessions at the booking, (which they make you do when you are going to jail according to all the movies I’ve seen), why then didn’t the writer’s write her removal of her earings and her rings.
The reason, (from what I understand) that you must remove valubles, especially all jewelry as it could be used as a weapon or traded for contraband…Seems to me the writers would have not overlooked this but since KA sells the jewelry, that she may have an agreement to show the earings on air at all times.
I must get bored with a story and look at these obvious details instead of paying attention to the story…and some of them glare out like a big flashing neon light…
August 11, 2010 at 2:41 am #15343macrrParticipantSince he is a victim, he has a conflict of interest. If the case were to go to trial, he most certainly would be called to testify. However, if this were real life, after the arrest and booking, the person would have a bond hearing within a short time. This is the time when a defense lawyer (or the state) would request a psychological evaluation. It is very silly for Hope not to go that route.
August 11, 2010 at 11:48 am #15345SWParticipantfollowing that rule, the only 2 lawyers in town (Justin and EJ) can’t represent Hope. So, maybe an old character will return and now be a lawyer?
August 11, 2010 at 12:47 pm #15347BonbonParticipantThere is no law that would apply in this case that could prevent Justin from defending Hope. Under normal circumstances it would probably never happen but there is nothing that says he can’t.
A conflict of interest would only occur if that representation could somehow adversly affect the outcome of the verdict. He would only have to testify if called by the prosecution, unless he chose to do so that is.
August 11, 2010 at 2:29 pm #15350PattiParticipantHope is the one with the rights …. the right to choose her representation. Even if she were to accept (which it looks as though she will not) a court appointed lawyer if there were to be a trial (which I doubt will happen), it is Hope’s right to fire her lawyer, court appointed or not, and plead guilty, or she could choose to represent herself, pro se.
