DPParticipant
I’m bummed!
DPParticipantThe slap had to be some of the worst acting I’ve seen. I know I’m in a minority here, but I have no appreciation for Deidre Hall’s acting style. I’m hoping she settles back in to the role soon, but I’ve never been a fan of her acting (although I am very happy to have Marlena and John back on the scene).
I loved the show yesterday and am appreciating that the new writers are actually taking us in directions where there are actual relationships – whether family, romantic, business, work. And, for me, that’s what a good soap is all about!
DPParticipantI really liked it and thought it looked very Burberry-ish.
DPParticipantmarriage to John? Or were they just engaged?
DPParticipantThere are corporate lawyers who work with the corporation but the CEO would still have his personal lawyers for other matters. I worked for several Fortune 100 firms, and each of them had a legal teams that work representing the corporation, but the execs all had their own personal lawyers. I’m not sure which they were referring to on Days – the Basic Black legal team or his personal legal team.
DPParticipantHe used to be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. That is his normal style – he can’t turn it down. It’s unfortunate that he really is such a stereotype.

Also, Jenn addressing the crowd with Jack standing in the background of where Abigail and Daniel were, and she still didn’t see him? Really? Because, by the way, I can even pick out my husband FROM THE BACK in a massive crowd. Ok, I will stop harping at this one.

Yes, I love my husband, but we have NEVER had a massive make-out session in public…ever! Why do so many of these couples do that? Or am I too conservative? (Hard to believe for a New Yorker!)
DPParticipantI just chalked it up to really poor editing.
DPParticipantI’m liking that some of the more recent story lines are a little more close to reality – ie, Sami’s health scare, her and Rafe’s financial issues, Bo and Hope being cops, a day in Salem spans only two episodes (and not a month!!), even Carly going to rehab. These are things that happen more frequently to real people than:
– being buried alive
– coming back from the dead
– face transplants
– overnight recovery after being in a coma for weeks
– body impersonators
– etc.
While I think soaps help us forget our own issues and should provide a bit of fantasy, I believe the key is making it somewhat more realistic so that we can still relate.
DPParticipantof him being out of town a few episodes ago.
DPParticipantAnd in no way did I think you were belittling my (or Sami’s) reactions.
I am so glad you did finally get to the right doctor and that you’re okay. I do think, also, that there’s a perceived difference (at least for me) when it comes to ovarian cancer. It’s known as the silent killer for a reason – there are no real tests for it (there’s the CA-125 tumor marker, but not all ovarian cancers produce CA-125, including mine); there are no reliable symptoms (nausea, bloating, constipation/diarrhea can all be part of our monthly cycles); and survival rates are pretty low. I was "lucky" in that I had bleeding (which is NOT a symptom of ovarian cancer) which caused me to see my gyn and she felt the growth which was confirmed by an ultrasound. Both she and the doctor at Sloan-Kettering seemed to imply that they thought it was something else. The night before my surgery, I read about ovarian cancer and saw the stats and just knew (my mother had died at age 42 of breast cancer, I was 43 when this was happening to me). I also realized, in hindsight, that I did have many of the symptoms but had chalked them all up to my monthly cycle and/or some "normal life" stressors that would always cause stomach aches/diarrhea. But just reading about ovarian cancer was very scary. The stats, especially, were sobering. So, I went in to the surgery thinking the worst, and well…. I will tell you, I was among a very select lucky few – "cured by surgery"! I never had chemo, radiation, or anything. And, for the record, that was 12 years ago!!
Anyway, we’re both here to now be able to talk about Days, Sami’s immaturity, etc and have a good ol’ laugh!!
DPParticipantto see if it had been on but it’s been nonstop hurricane coverage. Guess I’ll check SoapNet tonight.
DPParticipantAll I kept thinking was, "why didn’t they cast her as Taylor"?!?! They look so similar and even their mannerisms are similar.
DPParticipantBonbon, I’ll have to disagree about Sami’s reaction. It was almost exactly the same as mine when I was told I had a growth (that they really did not think was malignant….but it was). The night before my surgery, I was on the internet reading about everything it possibly could be, then started planning how I would want my kids and hubby to go on without me. I just posted a new topic on this specific subject as I thought it was the most realistic behavior I’ve ever seen Sami exhibit, given a set of circumstances.
