IzzyBParticipant
To try positive posting for one week. It would be interesting to see what people come up with that others have not thought of.
I never really FF through scenes until recently and it has nothing to do with the show itself. I had preemie twins in December and was backed up with 46 episodes. So what I did was used the Days Cafe site in tandem with watching the show to catch up. The scenes I FF through because they were not as interesting I read about online. For some not as exciting shows I actually read the whole summary online. It allowed me to catch up without spending 30+ hours actually watching. Not to mention a daily show never stops, so as I was catching up more was taping. I still don’t always have 45 minutes in a day to sit down and watch days (still haven’t watched yesterday’s show), so I do sometimes fast forward through conversations that are repeats (how many times can Stephano or Nicole tell EJ to stay away from Taylor), but then I read what I FF through online.
Overall I like the show, it has been a part of my life since 88 when I was 13. I grew up watching it every day it was on. No matter what happens I will always find a way to watch it or keep up on it. So I am one of those fans that is going to stick it out through the good and bad times and has never even threatened to stop watching it. I am also a realistic person and understand it is a business and sometimes favorite characters have to leave for whatever reason. So I also don’t get as upset when a character leaves. I do have to admit that one character would really sadden me if she left and that is Sami. Mainly because I have grown up on her character. She started after I started watching and we are similar ages. But I still wouldn’t stop watching. I also don’t think they would get rid of her with the crossover to Biggest Loser.
IzzyBParticipantI love the fact there are normal woman on Days. Ones that don’t wear make-up (well not a lot) and dress like a normal mother in her 40’s would dress. I don’t mind characters like Chloe who aree always fabulous, but I also like seeing normal woman on Days. And why can’t a man like Dr. Dan like a normal plain dressed woman? Lets face it once a man starts living with a woman, they are going to see the root beer soaked, "unatural" woman eventually. So I think Dr. Dan is old enough to know that a woman is not always dressed up and can fall for someone with no make-up and no frills.
I have not noticed the kiss differences. So if the director is trying to direct it, it is too suttle for me to notice.
IzzyBParticipantSo to those of you who are watching it, how long do you think I am going to be stuck in digital world instead of High Def? I am so not used to TV that is not in High Def, my TV does not do well with digital it is very fuzzy and kind of annoying. I am thinking of watching Days on my one non-high def TV to make it look better, but it is in the guest bedroom with no device to tape days on it.
IzzyBParticipantLets face it, if we just had the oldtimers we would have an aging cast that many would want to retire now. It just is not possible, the show has to bring new blood onto the show. Then our next argument is bring people in who have a familiar past like kids of characters no longer on the show (Nathan is a good example of this), but there are only so many of them and then there would be no room for pairing people up. We already complained about Max being with his cousins. Which really that is what you run into when the show brings on a bunch of children of past/current characters. So the show has to bring on new characters to be able to have multiple generations on the show at all time. I sometimes feel bad for Cordey, because he can’t win. Fans are going to complain no matter what he does. I think that is why he is so slow on reacting to fan reaction, because if he does, some other part of the fanbase won’t be happy. The happy fans never say they are happy, it is the unhappy fans that seak out internet sites to complain on. Many times I leave this board because it gets too negative for me and starts to sway my opinion of the show towards the negative and I don’t enjoy it as much. So it also spreads and sometimes even makes it worse trying to bring on a new cast member. I normally try to give a new character 2 to 3 months before trully forming an opinion, UNLESS the acting is so bad it is painful to watch.
IzzyBParticipantUs fans are guilty of not giving a character enough time to develop. We complain about a new character and how we hate them with this person or that person and then we come to love them as their story develops. Sometimes Days does not listen to our complaints (which we hate at the time) like with Chelsea and Mel and we eventually don’t want to see them go. Other times when they are actually serious about listening to us they do listen and get rid of the character (Dario). Dario leaving is the fans fault because we were not patient and now some of us that are starting to like him can’t out vote the fans who never gave him a chance. So now he will be written off and we get Nathan back. I liked Nathan and Mel, but I am wondering with how much Mel has grown if Nathan is right for her anymore. We will see.
IzzyBParticipantPhillip seemed too old and Brady is older than Phillip. To me their relationship at times is the big brother/little sis relationship. Mel has matured a lot over the years and I really like her character. I don’t think I want her with another kirakis. At times they do have chemistry, but other times not. It is a strange relationship.
IzzyBParticipantIt was ok with the fight. It wasn’t too violent for me and I kind of liked the punches one for each thing he has done. I edo think the henchman at the beginning was a little wrong, but I think it is showing Brady now with his "men" like all the baddies have. But I think think this fight served several purposes. First, it puts Brady on the dark side for good and showed he is no longer on the fence. They needed something big to push him completely to the dark side in everyone’s mind and this did it. Do I like the dark Brady? Depends on what he NEW writers do with it, because I know this current ones will just have him drinking all the time in spewing nonsense. Second, it brought back the fued because the two evil corps in Salem. You know eventually someone is going to find out about this and when they do there will be revenge and then revenge on that and so on. If it includes Stephano and Victor and the new writers, I think it could be a very good SL, but we will see. I also think it gets EJ out of commission for awhile which effects the Nicole/Taylor SL and the Rafe/Rafe2/Sami/EJ/Stephano SL. It allows Rafe more time to figure things out because Stephano is going to be all worried about his son and not in the right mind. It slows Nicole down because she can’t do anything with EJ in the hospital and it brings Taylor and EJ closer before the Rafe news is broken to her because she will feel sorry for EJ.
It moves some SLs along quickly, while slowing others down that need some time for other SLs to catch up.
IzzyBParticipantI think it is her insecurities, mixed with people telling her not to go out with Dan, mixed with people saying take it slow, mixed with the rebound thing from Jack. I think that is why she is being aggressive. It did not help with her conversation from Kate, I think that made her want Dan even more and wanted to prove something to the world that she is over Jack and she can commit.
SL wise, yes, Jack is coming back soon, so they need to rush Dan and Jenn’s relationship. Honestly, I am not looking forward to this triangle and I hope the new writers have a new angle on this that works with Jack and Jenn, because Triangles recently with them have not worked out into interesting SLs because Jack gets too goofy.
June 13, 2011 at 3:05 pm in reply to: A couple of more POSSIBLE returning characters according to Days Talk #24490IzzyBParticipantCarrie is fine, but her and Austin were always boring. And the last time they were hear the SLs for them were just plain bad. I am not sure I can get over that whole thing with the companies and the wierd switching of pairings and all that stuff. I say bring Carrie back and have her leave Austin for some reason and pair her up with someone new. I understand her being there for her sister and she is a key Brady, but her being with Austin is a snoozefest and just brings up the whole thing with Sami wanting Austin.
IzzyBParticipantIt had to do with killing that man and the cover up. But once Chad’s mother was dead the secret was safe with Kate and Stephano. That wasn’t a dropped story, it was resolved when she was dead.
IzzyBParticipantEverything we are watching is her material. The new writers material won’t air until August.
IzzyBParticipantI understand if he wants to retire. It is like Doug and Julie, I would love them on more, but I understand it is their decision to be on less. So I get it. But the show should not force him off or fire him, but I think he is an important part of the show and with John coming back it would be a shame to lose him. There could be some excellent SLs with John and Stephano on at the same time.
IzzyBParticipantYou can’t please everyone, but I think most everyone can agree the SLs today are not as good as they can be. We have some good SLs and some days that I am on the edge of my seat, but nothing consistant. Also, I think the people will be leaving slowly, not all on the same day. We have had mass exit before and honestly most of the time in the end you don’t notice it as much as you thought.
Vivian, Quinn, and Chloe will probably leave somewhat together. My guess is that Vivian will help Chloe take down Quinn. He will go off to jail and Vivian will leave town because of the trama she just went through with her son. Chloe having redeemed herself will move to Chicago so she can see Parker more often and have a better chance of starting her career of singing lessons while also maybe singer herself. It won’t be hard to wrap up that SL and have the characters leave quickly.
Dario will leave when Nathan comes back. He never seemed the type to want to stick around, he is only doing it for Mel and probably to watch out for Gabi because of how Rafe is acting. But by that point the truth about Rafe will come out and so he will feel comfortable to leave after his heart is broken by Mel. Again, that can be wrapped up by September.
Carly is an easy one. She loosing her liscense and enters rehab to never be seen again. I am sure Mel and Dan will talk with her on the phone here and there about how better she is getting and how she is starting her life over away from Bo. Someday down the road I see I seeing her again or maybe being there for special events.
Taylor is the hardest one I see. Mainly because I just don’t know where they are going with EJ and Nicole. This is the one I cannot predict. I imagine when the Rafe thing goes down Taylor will see the truth. But I just don’t know where that leaves Nicole and EJ in all of this.
I honestly think the cast needed to be trimmed down a little and I think they picked the perfect people to leave. I will be sad to see some of them leave, but SL wise they picked the best ones.
IzzyBParticipantI understand people wanting to watch the case. I am just over it because of living here in Orlando and that is all we have heard about since it happened. I just can’t stand Casey’s face. I guess also having twins recentely and one with a lot of medical issues, I just can’t understand how she could do what she did.
I just don’t understand why they have to have it on 10 different channels. I think 2 or 3 would be enough. People who wanted to watch it could watch it, but people like me who really have no desire to watch it can watch their normal shows. I know that nationally it is not played on 10 different stations, it is just the lucky ones like me who live in Orlando that get stuck with it on every station. I feel like I can’t get away from the case.
IzzyBParticipantI can’t believe I forgot his name. I could picture him, but the name was just not coming to me.
