smittyarnieParticipant
we are lucky only four people have died, but the loss of livestock and pets is astronomical. So much devistation across the entire state. 14 bridges are just gone. Entire cities are still islands and they are flying supplies in by helicopter. I can’t imagine the destruction as this heads south to Kansas City. The Missouri River, usually about 3-4 blocks wide, is almost a mile wide at Nebraska City, and of course much of I-29 from northern Iowa down to Missouri is under water. But, we are Nebraska. We survived the 2008 flooding and came back strong. We we survive this, too.
I think of you all often and hope everyone is doing well.
smittyarnieParticipantI have crossed that thin line between fan and fanatic. Sorry to see my favorites (Jeff, Smoke, Jr) retire but really enjoying the young blood learning their way around (Chase, Bubba, Ryan Blaney, et al). I think about all my old friends here all the time. Nice to know you think of me, too.
smittyarnieParticipantI lost interest after Drake and Diedra left the sow several years ago, and didn’t realize they were both back. I may start watching again, and have something useful to contribute to the conversations.
I’ll post a synopsis of the last couple years at the Brady Pub. Nice to still see familiar names.
smittyarnieParticipantIt has been too long. I’ll email you in the morning. The last four years have been challenging, but we’re doing well now.
smittyarnieParticipantThey might not have had the steamiest romance or biggest storylines, but they were the backbone of the show. Without Tom & Alice there would be no DOOL.
John & Marlena, Bo & Hope, Jack & Jennifer, all top 10.
smittyarnieParticipantHe was on One Life to Live for years before Soap Talk. I think he went crazy and he’s locked up now. I miss Soap Talk. Loved that show!
smittyarnieParticipantthan I remembered. CONGRATS! Chrisite is such a beauty, love seeing her again. It would have been great if they included her real pregnancy as part of her visit to Salem. She said its all good with Austin right now so having a baby would be the natural thing. Plus, a real soap opera miracle after Lexie told her she would never be able to have kids.
smittyarnieParticipantThe made such a HUGE point that Gran was hanging on to say goodbye to Mike, and then he didn’t make it in time. I’m sure there will be some guilt or angst ridden trauma that Mike will suffer for not making it in time. Also, do we know yet who was in the other vehicle? That may play into it, too.

For the younger fans, or non-"Friends" fans – Joey (a charactor on "Friends" that was an actor) got the part of Dr. Drake Ramorey on Days of Our Lives. They even included a couple scenes of him with the Days actors. It was great. But, Joey had an interview with a soap mag and trashed the writers, saying they weren’t important, it was all about the actors improvising. Next thing he knows, the writers have Dr. Drake plunging to his death down the open elevator shaft. It was hilarious. Jennifer Aniston’s character was a hoot through the whole thing. She played a huge Days fan with the hots for Bo (I think) but didn’t care for Victor at all. Watch for it on reruns.
smittyarnieParticipantNow that you’ve retired (CONGRATS!) I need your new email address – unless the BGSU address still works.
Nothing important going on, just want an update on your sister and I do enjoy our occasional correspondence. Kathy
smittyarnieParticipantyears ago on one of those blooper shows. "Alice" was volunteering at the hospital, standing at the nurses station, reciting one of those tiresome lines that include how everyone is related. I don’t remember the exact line, but it went something like, "Well, you know Roman’s daughter Carrie is dating my grandson Lucas and she is really in love with Kate’s son….aw, what da’hell is his name?" I was howling as it was so out of character.
smittyarnieParticipantI think that’s the nicest compliment I have ever received. I hang out every once in awhile to catch up, but lost interest in the show over the past year so I have nothing constructive (or destructive) to contribute. I do hope to watch Alice’s funeral and tribute. I’m anxious to see if it truly honors her as she deserves. Also hoping for "Days" of flashbacks.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you, and everyone else, for the prayers. It’s been over 4 years already since the stem cell transplant and I am still in remission. Knock on wood!!
We need to reinstate the daily "Good Morning" post. KathyH started it and reading and posting there was the first thing I did after putting on my lipstick. I did not leave for the office until I had caught up on everyone. I still miss Kathy desperately, even though I never met her in person.
Luckey – if you see this drop me a note with your new email. CONGRATS on your retirement. How is your sister doing?
Ok. I’m done rambling for now. Thanks again for thinking of me. It may just be the impetus I need to kick start me back to watching DOOL.
smittyarnieParticipantcures all, no matter the ailment
smittyarnieParticipantto Jamie’s success. There are strict minimums that must be met that have been established by whichever federal agency oversees the reimbursible school lunch programs. This is the program that has determined that potatos are a vegetable. During the Reagan administration they tried to qualify ketchup as a vegetable, too. Happily that one didn’t pass.
The other major roadblock is budget. That’s the really big one that he simply can’t overcome without parental assistance. There is a strict budget for each lunch sold. There is a specific amount the feds reimburse the schools for each (free) lunch served. In order the make the lunches cheap enough they have to serve the prepared foods that are "fortified" with the ingrediants required to meet the federal minimum standards. Don’t forget – the school lunch program is basically a non-profit restaurant. Food is not the only cost involved. Starting with the cost of the kitchen equipment, utilities, labor, napkins and water to wash the used trays, every penny has to be included.
Are school lunches nasty? Yes, most of them are. I’m sure there are schools around the country that serve good tasting, nutritious lunches. But they are few and far between.
Most kids eat five meals a week at school, 9 months a year. The responsibility of the rest of their meals, and their daily exercise, rests with their parents. School lunches should not take the entire blame for the overweight children in our country.
Jamie’s revolution is to start at a young age to educate the next generation how to keep their bodies fit. Revamping the school lunch program is only one small part of the that revolution.
